Frequently Asked Questions

What is a homeschool co-op?

A homeschool co-op (short for “cooperative”) is a group of families who come together to support each other in their homeschooling journey. At Purposeful Servants, we operate as a parent-led, Christ-centered community that offers weekly classes, field trips, and fellowship.

Each family contributes by volunteering in various ways — teaching, assisting in classrooms, providing administrative help, and more. This shared effort creates a rich environment of connection, accountability, and spiritual growth.

What is included in my membership fee?

Your membership fee covers much more than just class access. It helps support:

  • Facility rental for our weekly meetings
  • Administrative supplies and printing costs
  • Background checks processing system
  • Insurance and safety infrastructure
  • Access to the calendar of events and the registration system
  • Oversight and planning by our volunteer leadership team

Please note: Individual classes may include additional supply or material fees, which are listed during class registration.

How do I register for classes?

After your membership is approved and dues are paid, you’ll receive access to the Class Registration page. There you can browse the exact available classes and sign up each child. Teachers and leadership receive early registration access; general members follow shortly after.

All registrations must be finalized by the posted deadlines, and payment is required to secure class placement.

Can I drop off my child?

No. The Purposeful Servants Co-op is not a drop-off program. A parent or legal guardian must be on campus at all times and actively involved in their assigned volunteer role during co-op hours. This helps maintain safety, build community, and model servant leadership. If there is a time that you need to send your child with another family, then you can sign a temporary guardianship form for the day.

What ages do you serve?

We offer classes and nursery care for children from birth through high school (typically ages 3–18 for class registration). Student classes range from academic to elective to performance-based, and may require attendance, homework, or participation in end-of-semester events.

What kind of classes are offered?

Classes vary by semester depending on teacher interest and availability. Potential offerings include:

  • Core subjects like writing, science, and history
  • Creative electives like art, music, drama, and cooking
  • Performance groups such as band and dance
  • Hands-on topics like woodworking, gardening, homesteading, or STEM
  • Plus teen-led classes and student helper opportunities

A full list of upcoming classes will be posted before each registration cycle.

Is there a dress code?

Yes. As a Christ-centered community, we promote modesty, dignity, and respect in our dress. Specific guidelines apply to both students and adults. Please refer to our Parent Handbook for detailed expectations.

When and where does the co-op meet?

We meet at Shady Grove Baptist Church on Friday’s during the school year, for 14-week semesters in the fall and spring. Each semester includes weekly co-op days, monthly field trips, and an end-of-semester performance or open house.

What if my child has special needs?

We are committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment. If your child has special circumstances, please share that during the membership process. We’ll do our best to work with you to explore appropriate accommodations within the limits of our volunteer structure.

Do we need to be Christian to join?

Yes. Purposeful Servants Cooperative is a Christ-centered community, and membership is open to families who affirm our Declaration of Faith and support our biblical mission.

While we welcome questions and conversations, we do ask all participating families to align with our core beliefs and agree to uphold our community standards during classes, events, and activities. Our goal is to foster a unified environment where biblical values are modeled and celebrated in both learning and fellowship. We also require teachers not to push a specific agenda or denomination.

If you’re unsure whether our co-op is the right fit for your family, we encourage you to reach out and talk with us — we’re happy to help guide you.
